Home Design Trends We Love

We have been seeing – and using – some unique home design trends in our showhomes and move-in ready homes lately. And some of the favourites of our designer and our homeowners are all included in the Jagare Ridge Showhome. And these trends aren’t just for a showhome. They are easy to incorporate into your new home as well.

BIG Molding!

We are taking your standard crown molding to the next level with these extra wide caps on top of the kitchen cabinets. Extended to the ceiling throughout the space, this special touch accentuates the high ceilings and adds a luxurious element to the cabinets.

Pro Tip! Adding panels and columns around your range creates a beautiful custom focal point to your kitchen.

Shaped Tiles & Mixing Tile Styles

When meeting with our tile supplier, your choices can seem endless! Make the most of this meeting by mixing different selections throughout your house. Think outside the box by adding a strip of hexagon tiles to your shower, or adding a shimmery herringbone to the space behind your range.

Pro Tip! Keep the base colours the same in all of the tiles you choose in order to keep the design consistent through your home, and then choose tiles that are different shapes, sizes, and glossy vs. matte to easily duplicate this look.

Wall Panels

We have come a long way form the dark wood panels in your Basement Rec Room circa the 1970s! The paneled walls of today are bright, professional, and look as beautiful in a bathroom as in a formal dining room. Paint them all one colour, or add a contrasting colour to the panels and match the trim to the rest of your home.

Pro Tip! Add paneling to a wall that you want to turn into a “feature” instead of an accent paint colour. It might take a little extra planning, but the end result is definitely worth it!

Other Trends

Wallpaper continues to go strong into 2017, with new patterns, shimmery accents, and lots of texture! We are also hearing a lot more requests for built-in cabinet options. Take advantage of the meeting with your cabinet supplier to plan a desk space for the kids, or a perfectly placed media centre for the Bonus Room. This helps to ensures a uniform look to all the cabinets in your home, and it allows you to start enjoying your new home as soon as you move in without waiting for the IKEA delivery!
